Dover

Wednesday, May 7th

Today we were on a full day tour of the Dover countryside. The tour was provided by White Cliffs GeoTours and arranged by Mike Martin.

The day started cool but sunny. Our first stop was at Samphire Hoe, a man made nature reserve formed from the construction of the Channel Tunnel at the foot of the cliffs.

Mike and Pam Martin became our "buddies" on this cruise....

I never even knew there were cliffs on the west side of Dover. They are magnificent!

Our guide, Les Richmond, explaining how the area was developed

Acoustic Mirror....Prior to WW II and the invention of radar, acoustic mirrors were built as early warning devices around the coast of Great Britain with the aim of detecting incoming enemy aircraft by the sound of their engines.

St. Margaret's Bay with the homes of Noel Coward and Ian Fleming
